Iaan van Niekerk

(Community Service Vet)

Dr Iaan van Niekerk joins the team as our CCS (compulsory community service) vet for 2020. Born in Bloemfontein, he grew up in a small town in the Northern Cape and Iaan says that he always knew that he wanted to be a vet, even from a very early age. Growing up in a house full of animals he says he took the ‘scenic route’ to get into Veterinary Science but he how has a BSC as well as his Honours in Zoology.

When not working, he has a wide variety of interesting hobbies from rock-climbing to martial arts and he is the first to tell you that he loves reptiles…especially snakes and spiders.

He is very excited about his post to the Cluny Animal Trust and he says that this year is going to be quite an interesting experience for him because like many vets he understands how important it is for all animals, even those owned by the poor to have access to proper veterinary care. He is looking forward to providing primary health care to the communities in and around Fouriesburg and his work will also include sterilisations, vaccinations as well as time spent educating the community on how to care for their domestic and farm animals.
