Chantel van den Berg

(A Volunteer with a Heart of Gold!)

Having grown up with all sorts of animals, Chantel has always had a very special place in her heart for them. She initially studied accounting and although she quickly established a very successful career in this field, she realised that this was not the career that she wanted. She started working for Dr Katherine Barker in 2017 in her private practice in Clarens, and it didn’t take long for Chantel to get involved in the day-to-day operations of Cluny and she is a volunteer that we simply could not do without!

She wears her heart on her sleeve (and she will be the first to tell you that it sometimes gets her into trouble) but she is a passionate animal advocate who always puts the needs of animals before her own and that is something which she refuses to apologise for. Chantel really does get stuck into anything and everything with sheer gusto and she never says no!

She is always the first person to volunteer for every single outreach and she is learning valuable animal care lessons and is looking into the possibility of studying to become a qualified AWA. Chantel is amazing at raising funds and in 2019 she built the majority of the 100 kennels that we donated to the local community all by herself…honestly, we don’t think there is anything she can’t do! She is also a fantastic cook (she is often responsible for feeding us when we are out of town on outreaches) and one thing you may not know about her is that she also has a passion for photography, she has a great eye and a fast shutter finger and she has captured some wonderful pictures of our work which can be found on our website, in our calendar and on our Facebook page.
